5VPxC Series High Power DC Loads

HIGH POWER PROGRAMMABLE DC LOADS

The 5VPxC Series consists of high power electronic DC loads with input voltage ranges of 150V, 600V or 1200V. Highest current per load unit is 2000A per load but parallel mode supports higher current requirements.

All loads share a common and intuitive user interface. The 5VPxC Series are highly efficient integrated DC load systems that operate from a single user control panel or remote control interface.  Note that 5VPxC Series loads can be used as floor standing loads on removable casters or 19″ rack mounted using included rack ears.

There are 24 different 5VPxC Series models ranging from 6kW to 24kW. For higher power requirements, 5VPxC models can be paralleled easily. One 5VPxC MASTER load can be paralleled with up to seven other 5VPxC DC Loads in SLAVE mode. All controls and total power and current measurement is done by the  MASTER load.

OVERVIEW

The Adaptive Power 5VPxC Series loads are intended for high power DC test and product development applications in a wide range of industries. The 5VPxC Series models support voltages to 150V, 600V or 1200V and are well suited for testing large battery systems, high power AC/DC converters and energy storage systems found in Solar and Wind power applications. Their flexible V-I operating curves span range of voltage and current combinations at high power levels. All 5VPxC Series models have a low range mode for enhanced accuracy and resolution at lower voltage and current levels, further increasing their effectiveness.

The 5VPxC Series consists of a total of 24 different models providing a wide variation of possible voltage, current and power combinations. The DC loads can be paralleled in a MASTER/SLAVE configuration. Up to 8 loads can be paralleled this way for a maximum load rating of 192kA (8 x 5VP24-200C).

The 5VPxC Series DC Load models can be used as floor standing unit or mounted in a 19″ wide instrument rack as needed.  For rack mounting, the casters can be removed and included rack ears attached.

Note: Older generation non-A version 5VP DC Loads do not support MASTER/SLAVE mode. The “A” models are backward compatible with non-A version 5VP Loads.

APPLICATIONS

Load Versatility

All APS 5VPxC Series Loads are equipped with a powerful micro controller and user friendly controls to provide capabilities that cover a wide range of load applications. Precision metering of Voltage, Current, Power and Resistance is standard.

Power Supply Testing

Elaborate testing of linear and switch mode AC/DC power supplies at high speeds is made possible by flexible ranging and wide V-I operating curves found in all 5VPxC Series APS loads. This supports high throughput production test and burn-in of small and large AC/DC power supplies.

Power Supply Design

With built-in features like over current protection (OPC) test and over power protection (OPP) test and dynamic constant current waveform testing, new power supply designs can be thoroughly evaluated against design specifications. An analog input mode allows arbitrary current waveforms to be applied to a unit under test as well.

Battery Charge/Discharge Testing

Time sequencing of specific discharge current levels as a function of battery voltage allows characterization and performance testing of various battery chemistries. The high current resolution and accuracy of the 5VPxC Series load supports testing of both small and large batteries. MASTER/SLAVE parallel configurations up to 192kW are available.

Solar Panel Loading

The maximum power point tracking function of the 5VPxC DC loads simulate the behavior of a solar inverter allowing solar panel testing under a variety of conditions.
